BENTELLI, D. (Ital.). Die-sinker of the middle of the nineteenth century. He was Mint-master at Parma under Robert and Louisa Maria (1854-1859). His name appears in full on some of the currency ; also on a medal commemorating the Cholera Visitation at Parma, 1855, and Portrait-medals of Giuseppe Verdi, 1872, &c.

In medieval and early modern Germany, the Münzmeister ("mint master", the Latin term is monetarius) was the director or administrator of a mint, a moneyer with responsibility for the minting of coins, or specie. His duties were defined differently at different locations and ages.

BARTELS (?), BARTOLD (Germ.). Mint-master to the Dukes of Brunswick-Luneburg, first half of the seventeenth century; 1620- 1624, Mint-master at Lauenburg; 1626, at Winsen; 1630, at Harburg. He was son-in-law of the Lüneburg Mint-master, Jonas Georgens. There is a medal of Julius Heinrich von Lauenburg, dated 1626, which is attributed to him, on the ground of similarity of work between this piece and the monetary issues of Duke Julius Ernest of Braunschweig-Dannenberg (illustrated).
