In medieval and early modern Germany, the Münzmeister ("mint master", the Latin term is monetarius) was the director or administrator of a mint, a moneyer with responsibility for the minting of coins, or specie. His duties were defined differently at different locations and ages.

He is better known as a Gemengraver, but he also cut dies for about 150 coins and medals, and before the sack of Rome, under Clement VII., he was the chiet medallist in that city. Paul III. and Cardinal Farnese attached him to their service, and it is said that his works served for a long time as models to the Italian goldsmiths.
