BORREL, ALFRED (French). Medallist ; son of Valentin Maurice Borrel; he studied under his father, Jouffroy, and Merley. He was born at Paris in 1836, and became a pupil of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1856. He obtained the second Grand Prix de Rome in 1860, a Mention honorable at the Salon of the Champs-Elysées in 1863, the third Medal at the Salon of 1880, the second in 1890, and the first in 1896.
