BRIOT, DIDIER (French). A merchant of Damblain (Vosges), father of Nicholas Briot. In 1608, he leased, for a period of ten or twelve years the Mint of Charleville, which then belonged to the Duke Charles de Nevers ; but three years after, he was dispossessed of his office, and retired to Sedan, where he obtained the right of coinage from the Duke of Bouillon.
