DELABARRE, JEAN (French). Goldsmith and Medallist of Lyons (. . 1545-1561). He is noted for having executed some fine pieces of jewellery (ystoires), and imitations or reproductions of antique coins (antiques), which were widely used at the time for the decoration of basins, ewers, goblets, &c. He was the maker of the jewels presented to Henry II. and Catharine de' Medici by the authorities of the City of Lyons on the occasion of their visit in 1548. Bibliography. — N.
