GIROMETTI, PIETRO (Ital.). Son of Giuseppe Girometti, Gem and Medal-engraver of considerable merit, died in London in 1850. M. Babelon says of him that he succeeded in raising himself above his contemporaries of all countries by the excellence of his works. GLADEHALS, JACOB (Germ.). Nicolai, Nachrichten von den Baumeistern, Bildhauern... in Berlin, Berlin, 1786, informs us that the name of this artist occurs in 1597 in the Berlin archives as that of a Goldsmith to the Electoral Court. Apparently he was not a native of this city, but settled there late in life; he was still living in 1617, when it is said he was of a great age and in painful circumstances. GOBRECHT, CHRISTIAN (Amer.). Coin-engraver at the Philadel- phia Mint, from December 21, 1840, until his death, July 23, 1844. He was born in Hanover, York Co., Pa., December 23, 1785 ; went to Philadelphia in 181 1, where he became an engraver of bank notes, seals, calico-printers' rolls, bookbinders' dies, &c.
