GOOR, PIERRE WAUTIER VAN DE (Belg.). Coin-engraver, and Medallist; born at Antwerp on the 29th of January, 1783 ; died in 1851. He first studied at Paris, and on his return to his native country, the government of the Netherlands engaged him as Engraver at the Mint of Brussels, where he cut the dies for the first Ten Florin pieces. GOSSET, MATTHEW (Brit.). Wax-modeller, born in 1683, died on March 27, 1744. He formed a famous pupil in his nephew, Isaac Gosset. The only medallions, which can be ascribed with more or less certainty to this artist are : The Calydonian Boar Hunt ; — Perseus with Medusa's head ; — The Wars of the Titans against the Gods ; — Ganymede in the Palace of Jupiter.
