KRUEGER, FRIEDRICH HEINRICH (Germ.). Mint-engraver, and Medallist at Dresden ; born in 1749 ; died in 1805 (?) He studied the fine arts at the schools of his native city, and received tuition in medal engraving from the celebrated medallist, Wermuth. He then went to Denmark, and as a pupil of the Academy of Copenhagen gained two prizes. In 1777 he returned to Saxony, and executed various medals and works in ronde-bosse. In 1787 he was appointed Assistant-engraver, and in 1797, Chief-engraver at the Mint of Dresden, since which date he gave himself up almost exclusively to the cutting of coin-dies. By F. H. Krüger are the following medals : Apotheosis of Louis XVI., the Dauphin, and Marie-Antoinette (signed : F. H. KRÜGER SENIOR FEC.); — Peace of Tilsit, 1807, R. PAX ADES — ET TOTO &c.
