In medieval and early modern Germany, the Münzmeister ("mint master", the Latin term is monetarius) was the director or administrator of a mint, a moneyer with responsibility for the minting of coins, or specie. His duties were defined differently at different locations and ages.

He was a pupil of Christian Wermuth and Raimund Faltz ; entered about 1706 the service of the Dukes of Saxe-Gotha, for whom he worked until his death as Mint-engraver at Gotha, 1730-1742. His counters, some of which are dated 1587, 1588, 1600, &c., are not quite so common as those of his great competitors, the KRAUWINKELS and their successors, the LAUFFERS, &c.
