LAILLIER, ETIENNE (French). Mint-master at Chalons-sur-Marne, circ. 1423-1425, under Henry VI. of England. The following coins were issued at that Mint, and bear a crescent as mint-mark : Al. Salutes and Angelots (none yet found); AR. Blancs and Petits Blancs; billon, Deniers Tournois. Bibliography. — R. In medieval and early modern Germany, the Münzmeister ("mint master", the Latin term is monetarius) was the director or administrator of a mint, a moneyer with responsibility for the minting of coins, or specie. His duties were defined differently at different locations and ages.
