LJALIN, ALEXANDER (Russ.). Medallist of the second quarter of the nineteenth century, who worked at St. Petersburg. Iversen states that he was born in 1799, entered in 1813 the Academy of Fine Arts, where he obtained the second silver medal, appointed Engraver at the Mint in 1824, and died in 1861. From 1851 until his death he held a chair of Professor of medal-engraving at the Academy. Amongst his productions, which are usually signed A.?. or A.????H?
