His initial, the letter M, occurs also (in centre of the cross) on coins of Canterbury and Durham, showing that the dies were issued by the Master of the Mint in the Tower of London. In medieval and early modern Germany, the Münzmeister ("mint master", the Latin term is monetarius) was the director or administrator of a mint, a moneyer with responsibility for the minting of coins, or specie. His duties were defined differently at different locations and ages.

LUNDER, GABRIEL (Norweg.). Medallist of the second half of the eighteenth century ; born at Kongsberg (in Norway) ; resided for some time at Nuremberg, then at Koenigsberg, and finally settled at Copenhagen, where he was working from 1742 to 1782. His productions are usually signed G. L. or G. L. F., but also L. One of the most artistic is his Portrait-medal of the ecclesiastic Johann Meyer, superior of St. Lorenz, at Nuremberg.
