MORGAN, GEORGE T. (Brit.). Sculptor and Medallist, born at Birmingham, in 1845. He studied at the Art School there, and won a National Scholarship at the South Kensington, where he was a student two years. He worked for Mr. Pinches, about 1873-1875, and later went over to the United States, and was Assistant Mintengraver at Philadelphia (U. S. A.) under William Barber and Charles E. Barber, circ. 1876-1890. He is best known by the so-called " Bland " Dollar (illustrated), which is his design and execution, and was first struck in 1878. Amongst his medals are : David Roberts, 1796- 1864, executed in 1875 for the Art Union Co. of London (signed: G. MORGAN SC); — Thomas Carlyle, on his 80th Birthday (engraved by Boehm); — Railway Exhibition at Chicago, 1883 (in conjunction with Barber); — Henry Bessemer, 1879 (a specimen in gold was presented to H.
