In medieval and early modern Germany, the Münzmeister ("mint master", the Latin term is monetarius) was the director or administrator of a mint, a moneyer with responsibility for the minting of coins, or specie. His duties were defined differently at different locations and ages.

PECKHAM, SIR EDMUND (Brit.). High Treasurer of the London Mint from the reign of Henry VIII. to that of Elizabeth. The coins he is said to have issued bear his crest, an ostrich's head, as mintmark. His appointment as Master of the Mint dates from 1546; in 1554 he was a Member of Parliament for Buckinghamshire; later, he was made a privy councillor, and knighted in 1555.
