PICCIOLI (ltal.). A Bolognese Sculptor of the first half of the nineteenth century, whose signature occurs on two Portrait-medals of the composer Gioacchino Antonio Rossini, struck in commemoration of the first performance of his Stabat Mater at Bologna, 1842. Both medals were engraved by Grottolini, and only modelled by Piccioli. His signature : PICCIOLI F. occurs also on a Portrait-medal of Cardinal Ugo Spinola, 1842.

PERGAMOS (Greek). Gem-engraver of ancient times. The inscription, ?EP?AMOY (not very clear) occurs on a paste, red and transparent, in the Florence Museum ; subject, Dancing Faun with thyrsus. Furtwängler admits the style of the gem to be antique, but otherwise condemns the piece as modern. Reinach does not agree with this opinion. Babelon thinks the paste is a copy of a gem now lost.
