DAWBENEY, GILES, LORD (Brit.). Mint-master at London, in conjunction with Bartholomew Rede, goldsmith, from the 1st to the 5th years of Henry VII. In the first year of that reign, " they were appointed joint masters and workers of the Mint, to coin pieces of the same description as had been coined under Edward IV. ; and in 1489 the same persons, Sir Giles having now become Lord Dawbeney, were ordered to make a new money of gold according to the print and form of a piece of lead annexed to the Le...
