In medieval and early modern Germany, the Münzmeister ("mint master", the Latin term is monetarius) was the director or administrator of a mint, a moneyer with responsibility for the minting of coins, or specie. His duties were defined differently at different locations and ages.

The name of this artist has been identified by Binder ( Württembergische Münz- und-Medaillenkunde, 1846). It occurs on a beautiiul Portrait-medal of Luther, 1521, which is copied from an engraving by Höpfner, not by Cranach, as stated by Erman, in Deutsche Medailleure, p. 48. A specimen of this medal, from the Völcker Collection, was sold for 2705 Marks at the Sale of the Wunderly-von Muralt Collec- tion (Part IV, April 1900).
