PETER, VICTOR (French). Contemporary Sculptor, and Medallist, residing at Paris ; pupil of Devaulx, and Sebastien Cornu. He studied art against his parents' wish, and was obliged to earn his living, when still quite young, by doing work for Falgui?re, Paul Dubois, and Antonin Mercié. He began to exhibitat the Paris Salon in 1868, and won his first medal in 1879. At the Universal Exhibition of 1900, he was awarded a gold medal, and decorated with the Legion of Honour. He is now Professor of practical sculpture at the Paris “ École Nationale des Beaux-Arts ". This artist's works in sculpture are numerous and comprise Equestrian statues of William II. of Holland, at Luxemburg ; General Lee, at Richmond (U. S.
