COIN MINTAGE
Hand minting each piece of the new commemorative coin.
Each coin is minted separately and manually, with extraordinary attention. Automatic minting of circulation money is probably faster, but incompatible with high quality requirements of our coins.

Coin presses in Prague Mint are placed in Clean Areas. There is a special floor and walls are covered with mirrors. The room is pressurized to do not receive any dust particles from outside, and it is entered through cleaning zone.
The powerful air conditioning system is taking care about cleanliness and the atmosphere exchange.
Anyways, the coin surface of each blank is cleaned with compressed air prior of insertion into the press and also after mintage of a coin.
Coins are inserted and removed from the press manually.
The mintage in the highest quality is performed by the repeated hits of the coin press, each one with different tonnage. This ensures pressing all of them, even the smallest relief details. Usually, it is necessary to mint with four hits, but in case of complicated orders there is no exception to mint with twelve.
The press is designed to prevent lifting of the dies between the hitting. It must not move away from the coin surface to avoid moving of the blank, and thus to avoid coin relief shadow.
An extremely large force is required for minting of coins with a diameter of 100 mm. For minting of gold medals of this diameter is needed to develop a compaction pressure up to 980 tons!
We work with them, literally with kid gloves...
